The companies are advertising the tablets and Debenhams vouchers on their websites and asking victims to fill in an online personal injury application form or call a freephone number. One law firm is offering the vouchers to anyone who introduces an accident victim to them. The Solicitors Regulation Authority ( SRA which sets the rules for all law firms in England and Wales, said the companies are doing nothing wrong. A Mail on Sunday investigation found that Liverpool company Hampson Hughes is offering customers an i Pad 2 if they make a personal injury claim. The firm is also offering a £1,000 cash advance instead of the i Pad. The cash is deducted from the compensation the victim receives. The company fights cases on a no-win, no-fee basis. A reporter phoned Hampson Hughes’s claims hotline, posing as an injury victim. He claimed to be a junior manager at a supermarket in London who slipped on a wet floor and hurt his leg. He had been off work for a week and said there was no sign indicating a slippery floor, which was wet because of spilt ice. A female employee said there was a clear claim of negligence against the supermarket. Louise Ellman, chairman of the Commons Transport Committee, said she was surprised such enticements were even allowed by law She said the i Pad would be given as soon as the supermarket accepted liability, and the price of the device would not be deducted from the final compensation.
