Plastic Opening Tools Phillips 00 Screwdriver Troubleshooting ¶  Track down a number of hardware problems using the i Pod Video Troubleshooting Guide. Identification and Background ¶  Released early October 2005, the fifth generation i Pod, or i Pod Video, shed the rounded styling of the fourth generation in favor of a flat front panel attached to a rounded metal rear case. The i Pod Video was the first i Pod.
Plug your i Pod's USB cable into the port at the bottom of the device, and plug the other end to the i Pod Power Adapter. Plug the adapter into an electrical outlet and let the i Pod charge for a few hours before you begin using it. While you are waiting for the device to charge up, use the i Pod CD that came with the device to install i Tunes on your computer, along with the i Pod software drivers. Connect the i Pod to an available USB 2.0 port on your computer. A small window will appear in the i Tunes program. Enter a name for your device and choose which kind of media you want to automatically sync with your i Pod. Once you click Done, the music and photos you have set up with i Tunes will automatically download into your i Pod. Disconnect your i Pod once the transfer is complete and the OK to disconnect messages appears at the top of the i Tunes window. Press any button on the i Pod to turn it on, and the main menu will appear. Slide your finger in a circular motion around the click wheel on the face of the i Pod to scroll down the menu. You don't need to push down, just slide your finger around the wheel. Press the Select button in the middle of the click wheel to select an item. Choose Music from the main menu to begin listening to music on your i Pod. Navigate to the song, album or playlist that you want to play, then press the Play/ Pause button on the bottom of the click wheel to begin playback. Tap the Play/ Pause button again to pause playback, or tap the Menu button to go back to the menu. While the screen displays the information of the song that is currently playing, you can move your finger around the click wheel to adjust the volume. Tap the Next/ Fast Forward button, which is on the right side of the click wheel, to skip to the next song in the album or playlist. Press and hold this button to fast-foward through the current song. Press the Previous/ Rewind button.
