This is a problem many users have, but there doesn't seem to be an effective solution that works for everybody. When trying to install Debian 7.6 (problem exists for other versions as well) from a USB device (created with YUMI/ Universal USB Installer/ UNetbootin the installation process gives out an error notification saying that it was not able to detect a Release file/the CDROM drive. To my understanding, programs that make the USB device bootable should mount the device as the CDROM drive. As this is not being done properly ( I think I already followed instructions of people that were having the same problem. For some of them, running a shell command solved the issue. I tried that, but the command mount /dev/sdb /cdrom But it didn't work for me. Others have figured out that the problem may be caused by file name extensions (.deb instead of.udeb but renaming them did not solve the issue for me either. Is there anyone who also has this problem/who can reproduce it and has a solution for this issue? Edit: Debian ISO I used Checksums and other releases.
When playing with different linux distributions I am using unetbootin tool to “flash” linux iso file on a USB flash drive, so I can boot from USB flash drive and avoid burning real CD or DVD disk. This way it is cheaper Package installation-reports. ( Wed, GMT) Full text and rfc822 format available. Acknowledgement sent to Mike : New Bug report received and forwarded. So it isn't quite the same as a brand-new machine. At the HP startup screen, hit ESC for the Startup Menu, F10 for BIOS Setup, in System Configuration tab, Boot Options, change Boot Mode from Legacy to UEFI Hybrid ( With CSM). ( I made other, irrelevant, settings changes, too.) System now boots automatically from the USB stick. For a second I see the message.
