It is. The Premier League has set guidelines as to the font used, the colours, the size and the placement of any/all numbers and lettering. The font is called, appropriately, Barclays Premier League - available online. It is _extremely_ similar (and probably inspired by) a font called Collegiate (if you're looking for something evocative with a larger character set). The colours are restricted to White, Black, Navy, Red and Gold. There is a complete Application Guide available here: do exist that offer the numbers as appliqués for heat transfer, adhesive or sewn-on. It takes some searching, but I managed to locate one in the New England.
Football is in the air! Like all great team sports, football (or soccer, if you are in the US) inspires its fans to identify with their favorite team’s players, and sometimes even with a specific city or country. Each football team has its own visual identity, and the appearance of their logos and jerseys are one of the most exciting areas of graphic design. And it is no surprise that fonts play a strong role! Below are images of just a few of the jerseys known and loved by fans around the globe. Can you guess which fonts have been used? Many of the fonts that help build these jerseys can be found in the Linotype library, or are similar to popular Linotype fonts. Often, designers will take a font and run it through a Photoshop filter, or automatically condense or expand its width. In these cases, some of the “fonts” pictured below are not exactly as the typefaces would normally be seen in print. This is all part of the design process.
